TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Commonly known as the Irish Wilderness Area, White Creek backpacking trail traverses some of Missouri's common hardwood forest areas scattered with a few pine stands, and rocky cedar glades. The wilderness area is characterized by the karst topography so common in the Ozarks featuring sinkholes, caves, and natural springs. The trail holds many highlights, one of which is the breathtaking view from the trail's west side overlooking the beautiful Eleven Point River. Steep limestone bluffs house a handful of caves for the area, the largest of which is White Creek Cave, a popular cavern for exploring, but closed September to April in efforts to preserve endangered bats.

WATER: Water is available at Bliss Spring & Eleven Point River
"Filter/Treat All Water"

TOPOGRAPHICAL MAPS: Riverton and Wilderness

CAUTIONS: Summertime ticks and heat, bring plenty of water. Group sizes are limited to 10 or less. Obtain the Forest Service Map for general information ! Black bears can be seen occasionally since this wilderness is close to the Arkansas border. Also, depending on the season, expect coyote, bobcat, rattlesnake, copperhead, and cottonmouth as part of the wildlife that inhabits the Irish Wilderness.

As some of you already know, Chris my wife had to have an un-expected gallbladder operation. She is doing fine but the doctor wants her to take it easy till November 3rd., so its with regret that we are canceling this trip. We will try to re-schedule at a later date.

Thank you for your understanding.
