The Beauty of Hawn State Park

Nestled in the hills of Southeast Missouri is a gem of a state park that must be seen. If you are in need of a quiet relaxing weekend, this is the park for you.

This 4,953-acre park contains stands of native pines, mature hardwoods, dogwoods, red buds, and beautiful wild azaleas. Pickle Creek meanders throughout the park providing a tranquil picturesque landscape along with cliffs that line the campground area that add to the ambience.

The campground offers 24 basic sites and 26 electric sites contained in two separate loops as well as a covered shelter and picnic area. A well-maintained shower house is located only a few yards away from most sites. A playground is centrally located in loop 2.Each campsite has a fire ring, lantern post, picnic table and a concrete pad.

While relaxing at your campsite, enjoy the calming sound of the babbling brook and the amazing view of the cliffs. While enjoying your weekend getaway, you can hike the numerous trails located throughout the park.

Situated beside the campground is a one-mile moderately difficult uphill trail that takes you to the top of the cliffs that overlook the campground. For the adventurous, there is a 10-mile backpacking trail that leads you through serene pine forests and along beautiful Pickle Creek, which has numerous shut-ins.

Make sure and bring your camera along with you on these hikes.

We have had several memorable get-togethers at this park. It gave us an opportunity to relax and enjoy each other's company and cooking. At one of our outings we baked our first cake in a dutch oven.

On Saturday night, we ended our get-together with a potluck dinner. We had about 12 different families and we had tons of yummy food. It was a perfect ending to good friends, great food and an awesome place.

From St. Louis, take I-55 South to exit 150 in Ste. Genevieve County. Then travel 11 miles west on Highway 32. The park is on your left immediately after you cross the railroad tracks.
