For those in the St. Louis area, St. Louis County Parks department is having a full moon bike ride, hike, & paddle at Creve Coeur Park on Friday, April 30, from 7 - 10 PM. The park is located in Maryland Heights, MO.
You can bring you own canoe or kayak and paddle on the lake ($5), rent a canoe ($25), bike on the paved trails ($5) or walk the trails ($5). Includes bonfire with hot dogs, marshmallows and beverage.
I've done this a bunch of times with the whole family. It's fun riding the trails at night, as long as you have a bike/helmet light. It gets very dark out there, even with the full moon. They have many miles of smooth, flat, paved trails to bike ride on. It's very eerie paddling on the lake at night, especially when the beavers start slapping their tails, but it's fun.
We are planning on going as long as the weather is decent. I usually wait until the last minute to sign up just in case. I'm not sure if we'll be kayaking or riding our bikes. I just thought I'd post this here in case anyone else wants to go.
Jim, if you like that at night you really need to check into a Boundary Waters Canoe trip. It's a lot of work, but man, you can't get any closer to God's country than this. Eerie is the norm there but wow is all I can say. I would love to do another trip like that before I get to old to do it. You at least owe it to yourself to do some checking if that sounds like something you would like to do.
